Vikings Travel to Monroe for Tough Road Test Friday

SBHS visits Monroe Friday with both teams coming off dominating performances.

After crushing a young East Brunswick squad at home in the season opener on Sunday, the South Brunswick High School football team should get a much tougher test Friday evening when they travel to Monroe.

Sitting at 1-0, the Vikings came out strong in defense of the first state championship in school history against the Bears last week, as South Brunswick dominated East Brunswick by a score of 42-7. The SBHS defense converted one touchdown and had a key turnover that set up another, while senior running back Dahrae Ford ran for two touchdowns in the victory.

Amir Johnson helped get the scoring started after he intercepted a pass in the first quarter to set up a Ford 13-yard touchdown run. Johnson would also add a 12-yard run for a score subbing for injured quarterback Dylan Olsson.

Skyler Sciandra helped to cushion the Vikings lead as East Brunswick was driving, with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown to make the score 21-7. Dontae Strickland and Drew Fehte would also add touchdowns for the Vikings in the romp.

Monroe is also coming off an easy week one win, as the Falcons dismantled North Brunswick by a score of 55-6. The Vikings will face the daunting task of shutting down Monroe junior running back Akeer Franklin, who ran wild against North Brunswick in the season opener with 184 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns in the contest.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Monroe Township High School, located at 200 Schoolhouse Road, Monroe Township, 08831.
