SBHS Rolls Over East Brunswick in Season Opener

Vikings down East Brunswick 42-7 on Sunday afternoon.

There was no lightning this time around to delay the season opener for the South Brunswick High School football team, but the Vikings brought plenty of thunder on Sunday.

The Group V Champion Vikings stepped on the field for the first time since winning the first state championship in school history, but a different year brought the same results, as South Brunswick took down East Brunswick by a score of 42-7.

The South Brunswick defense converted one touchdown and had a key turnover that set up another, while senior running back Dahrae Ford picked right up where he left off in the state playoffs last year as he ran for two touchdowns in the win on Sunday.

Amir Johnson got the scoring started after he intercepted a pass in the first quarter to set up Ford's first touchdown of the game a 13-yard run. Johnson would also add a 12-yard run for a score.

Skyler Sciandra helped to cushion the Vikings lead as East Brunswick was driving with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown to make the score 21-7.

Dontae Strickland and Drew Fehte would also add touchdowns for the Vikings in the romp.

SBHS will next be in action on Friday as the Vikings hit the road to visit Monroe.
