South Brunswick Girls Soccer off to 2-0 Start

Puchalski scores five goals in first two games

Despite running into some tough goaltending, the South Brunswick High School girls soccer team scored seven goals and won its first two games this season.

In large part, South Brunswick could thank the scoring skills of Jessica Puchalski for its start.

"Jessica's speed and strength truly help her finish goals," South Brunswick Coach Beth Barrio noted. "Jessica has scored five goals in the first two games, so she is off to a great start."

Jessica Puchalski scored both of the goals for South Brunswick in a 2-1 win over JP Stevens on Sept. 13. Cagnie Antczak and Courtney Hendrickson had assists.

These were huge plays because Erin Shea was having an outstanding game in goal for JP Stevens. Shea had 14 saves.

South Brunswick opened the season with a 5-0 win over Sayreville on Sept. 9.

"Jessica has been playing well and going to goal whenever she can to create scoring opportunities for both herself and the rest of the team," Barrio said.

Jade Gonzales and Hendrickson also scored goals. Antczak (two), Kaylee Baylis, Rachael Schaffer and Hendrickson had assists for South Brunswick.

Perdomo only needed to make one save to record the shutout in goal.

South Brunswick is scheduled to play Old Bridge on Thursday and Edison on Saturday.

"The girls are off to a good start and have a very competitive game on Thursday against Old Bridge," Barrio said.
