Concerns remain about traffic impact from a Park and Ride at intersection of Beekman Road and Route 27.
South Brunswick Township will continue to seek an alternative location for a new Park and Ride previously approved for the intersection of Beekman Road and Route 27. During Tuesday evening's Township Council meeting, township officials confirmed talks are ongoing to find an alternate site for the Park and Ride due to concerns about the added traffic the facility could add to Beekman Road. "We've been looking at other locations, but it needs to be on property the township has ownership of," said Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz. "We can't discuss where we're looking, but we are looking for another location." A plan for two new Park and Rides was approved in December 2011, with a second new Park and Ride to be constructed near the …

The Township Council will consider an alternate site for a new Park and Ride previously approved at the intersection of Beekman Road and Route 27.
Discussions will continue at tonight's South Brunswick Township Council meeting over whether to change the location of a new Park and Ride facility previously approved for the intersection of Route 27 and Beekman Road. A plan for two new Park and Rides was approved in December last year, with a second new Park and Ride to be constructed near the intersection of Route 1 and Independence Way. However, residents of the area have been vocal about their concerns about the negative traffic impact a new Park and Ride would present to Beekman Road. "This is a nightmare and it doesn't belong on Beekman," said Beekman Road resident Sue Nissenblatt during a meeting last year. "I don't think (this decision) is in our best interest." At the time the …

Route 27 and Beekman Road intersection to be widened, along with installation of a right-hand turn lane and a new traffic signal.
After nearly four years, South Brunswick Township has finally obtained Department of Transportation approval to begin work improving the intersection of Route 27 and Beekman Road. After the township went out to bond for the approximately $1 million project, the plan remained in limbo due to difficulties surrounding lighting at the intersection. "This took a long time but we finally got DOT approval," said Mayor Frank Gambatese. "After we get the permits we can go out to bid and that will take about 40 days, so hopefully this project will begin towards the end of September." The improvement project will include widening the intersection, an improved turn radius, and the addition of a right-hand turn lane. The intersection will also receive …

Township Council to discuss alternate site for new Park and Ride instead of Beekman Road and Route 27.
The South Brunswick Township Council will hold discussions on an alternate site for a new Park and Ride that was previously approved for the intersection of Route 27 and Beekman Road. Residents of the area have been vocal over concerns about added traffic that the new Park and Ride could generate on Beekman Road. "We're going to be looking at sites south of Beekman Road that are close to Route 27 so people can park and walk to the bus shelters, or a large enough area on 27 so the buses can pull in," said Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz. "If we can get parking set back further from 27, it would be ideal for the buses to pull in, make a pickup and go." The township had until the end of 2011 to spend approximately $2 million …

I have concerns about having a Park and Ride anyplace in South Brunswick. It will have a negative environmental, economic, and quality of life impact on any part of our South Brunswick Community.   more ›
