Padovano Reigns Supreme for SBHS Girls Hoops

South Brunswick High School senior basketball star Danielle Padovano broke the school record for most career points on Feb. 2.

This has been a season of milestones for South Brunswick High School senior Danielle Padovano. Earlier this year, the Lady Vikings basketball star earned a scholarship to play hoops at the next level for Fordham University. After the season began, Padovano became the sixth girls basketball player to break the 1,000 point mark. And on Feb. 2 in a 59-50 win against Cranford, Padovano etched her name at the top of the SBHS record books as the leading scorer in the program's 48-year history, breaking Jessica Mastronardi's (2006) record of 1,170 points. "It's very exciting for me. I've been working hard for a long time so to have that accomplishment is very big for me," Padovano said. "I knew I was getting close when I scored 1,000 points and …

South Brunswick Girls Basketball Defeated in State Semifinals

Vikings finish with record of 23-5.

All seasons -- even the very good ones -- have to come to an end at some point. For the South Brunswick High School girls basketball team, the end came on Saturday. South Brunswick was defeated at Jackson, 50-38, in the semifinals of the Central Jersey Group IV Tournament. "They definitely had the offense that we heard about," South Brunswick junior Danielle Padovano noted. "They were a good team." With Hannah Missry (23 points) and Tiffany Montagne (11 points) leading the way, Jackson was able to take a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and build that advantage to 36-15 by the half. Going into intermission, the South Brunswick coaches and players knew they couldn't do anything about the first half. The only thing they could control was …

South Brunswick Girls Basketball Wins State Opener

Padovano leads Vikings with 20 points.

The third time was the charm. Then again, so were the first and second times. The South Brunswick High School girls basketball team defeated Monroe, 55-30, in the opening game of the Central Jersey Group IV playoffs at home on Tuesday night. It was the third time South Brunswick has defeated Monroe this season. "I think winning the first two games gave us a leg up coming into this one," South Brunswick Coach Beth Barrio said. "We knew the things that were effective, helped us win the first two games." The biggest thing is having four returning starters from last season, including Danielle Padovano. The South Brunswick junior led all scorers with 20 points. "We were pretty confident going into this game," Padovano said, noting the two …
