South Brunswick Police officers recognized for work on SBHS hit and run, saving a choking woman, child exploitation case, drowning rescue, and other incidents of outstanding service.
South Brunswick Police officers were recognized for outstanding work throughout 2012 at a ceremony Thursday morning at the municipal building. “Today we recognize those officers who went above and beyond in 2012 with acts of bravery and dedication," said Chief Raymond Hayducka. "Each and every day, our officers are called to be selfless and dedicated. These awards recognize those who symbolized that commitment." Five officers were recognized for their live saving efforts, while another five officers were the recipients of medals for exceptional service. Victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and struck his head on a concrete ramp.
An ATV crash Sunday evening left the driver in serious condition after he was thrown from the vehicle and struck his head on a concrete ramp. At 7:22 p.m. yesterday, police received a 911 call reporting the crash on private property off Culver Road. Police said the driver of the ATV, a 28-year-old male, had permission to use the ATV on the property at the time of the crash. The driver was injured when he accelerated his 2007 Yamaha Raptor 700R down a long stone driveway and lifted the front wheels of the vehicle, causing it to veer to the left and strike a metal object. May 11, 2013 A South Brunswick woman who was reported missing on Wednesday returned to her family Friday night. Elizabeth "Liz" Carlton, 44, was unhurt and police said there was no criminal aspect to her disappearance. Carlton, who suffers from a cognitive impairment, was reported missing after family members became concerned for her welfare on Wednesday. Police are encouraging anyone who may have used the Trenton-based cleaning service to check their financial records.
A cleaning woman was charged on Friday with stealing a large sum of money from an elderly client in Kingston over a two-year span. Oksana Hrytsiv, 38, of Hamilton Township, allegedly stole nearly $80,000 while employed by Lilka's Cleaning Service in Trenton. The victim, who is in his 80's, had moved to an assisted living facility in the township. Hrytsiv was charged after the theft victim's middle-age son discovered improprieties in his father's checking account and alerted South Brunswick Police. A subsequent investigation by Det. Mike Pellino revealed "a deep and long term pattern of theft that took place over nearly two years time," police said. Suspect wearing a shirt that read "Trust Me I'm a Dr." runs off with two cartons from CVS on Route 27.
Apparently one should never trust a person wearing a t-shirt that says to trust them. South Brunswick Police are searching for a male suspect who stole two cartons of Newport cigarettes from the CVS on Route 27 on Monday. At about 3:30 p.m., the suspect went into the store asked for two cartons of cigarettes. When the clerk put them on the counter, the suspect grabbed the items and fled from of the store, according to police. The man was last seen running towards the Kendall Park roller skating rink. He was described as a white male wearing a red t-shirt that said “Trust me I’m a Dr.” Anyone with information should call police at call 732-329-4646.

Kendall Park man arrested; paramedics save man who overdosed on heroin.
A Kendall Park man was charged this week for stealing scrap metal from area homes allegedly to buy drugs, according to police. Dylan Giannini, 22, was charged with theft after he was found with aluminum ladders hanging out of his truck. On Thursday at about 2 p.m., a Newman Road resident came home and allegedly witnessed Giannini leaving the driveway of her home with her husband’s ladders in the back of his truck, police said. Soon thereafter, Sgt. Jeff Russo stopped Giannini on Route 522 with the ladders still in his truck, police said. The subsequent investigation revealed Giannini had allegedly stolen the items to sell for scrap so he could use the money to buy drugs, according to police. Authorities believe Giannini is also …

Two men charged with possession after allegedly being caught smoking marijuana in their cars.
Two men are facing drug charges in separate incidents after being caught smoking marijuana in their vehicles, police said. At 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Rocky Hill Road. Officer Mike Kuchma approached the vehicle and smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. As Kuchma spoke to the driver, Ahamed Sahulhameed, 27, of Piscataway, he observed "green vegetation" on Sahulhameed's fleece jacket right below his chin, police said. Kuchma asked if the substance was marijuana and Sahulhameed admitted that it was, according to police. A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered additional marijuana. Sunday morning fire causes significant smoke damage.
A fire Sunday morning in the basement of a Pullman Loop home displaced a family and killed a pet, according to South Brunswick Police. The fire was reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 15 Pullman Loop, when a resident who was home at the time the blaze started called it in. First responders arriving at the scene found smoke coming from the basement of the residence. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the basement, however the home suffered significant smoke damage, according to police. The family's cat died in the fire, police said. The four people who live at the home were displaced, however police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan said one or two of the residents are college age and may not be currently staying at the residence…

Saturday, April 27 A Dayton woman who had been missing since Thursday afternoon was located Saturday morning. Chandrika Purohit, 62, was found in New Brunswick after last being seen by her husband at the Walmart on Route 1 in North Brunswick on Thursday. Purohit was supposed to call her husband when she finished shopping, but she never called him, police said. Detectives worked piece together video surveillance from the Walmart in North Brunswick and train stations in New Brunswick train stations to locate her. Police said Edison man struck a dump truck while it was stopped a red light, killing his passenger.
An Edison man was indicted yesterday on charges that he caused a crash on Route 1 that killed a resident of China, who was in town for his daughter's college graduation. Jimmy Jung, 56, was indicted Thursday by a Middlesex County Grand Jury on the charge of vehicular manslaughter. Chunhua Jin, 53, of Shanghai, China, was killed while he was a passenger in a minivan driven by Jung, which struck the rear of a dump truck near the intersection of Route 1 and Henderson Road on May 3, 2012. Jung was hired to transport Jin and his family from a Lawrenceville hotel to LaGuardia Airport.
