Vikings Win Group V State Championship

Dahrae Ford scores three touchdowns to power South Brunswick High School to 33-22 win over Manalapan for first sectional title.

The South Brunswick High School football team made history just by advancing to tonight's Group V sectional title game. But just getting to the championship game at Rutgers University would not satisfy the Vikings. SBHS (10-2) hung tough for a 33-22 win over previously unbeaten Manalapan (11-1) for the first football state championship in school history. The Vikings were powered by the efforts of Dahrae Ford, who was a workhorse for SBHS all night. Ford scored three touchdowns, including an 8-yard run late in the fourth to ice the game for South Brunswick.  After jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead, Dontae Strickland made it 13-0 on a 68-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Perkowski. Manalapan answered to make it 13-6 in the second, before Ford …

South Brunswick Football Slips Away with Win

Vikings hold on for a 35-32 victory over Monroe.

In a game filled with twists and turns, the last one came courtesy of the grass on the South Brunswick High School field. Down 35-32 in the final minute, Monroe passed up a field goal and elected to go for the win from the 5-yard line. Fortunately for South Brunswick, a quick turn and slip brought the Monroe runner to his knee and the Vikings fans to their feet. "We got a break," noted South Brunswick's Amir Johnson, who helped set up two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions. "It was nerve-wracking at the end. Anything could have happened. "When that knee went down, all the pressure that was on our shoulders just lifted. We had players on the sidelines that were crying. This game can be emotional."
