SBHS Star Taylor Signs With Rutgers

After committing to the Scarlet Knights last June, South Brunswick High School football standout T.J. Taylor officially signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday to play for Rutgers.

T.J. Taylor is no stranger to High Point Solutions Stadium. The South Brunswick High School football star was all over the home field of the Rutgers University football team last year during the Vikings 33-22 win in the Group V State Championship game over previously unbeaten Manalapan. As it turns out, that won't be Taylor's last game at the stadium. Making good on a verbal commitment last June, Taylor officially signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday to play for the Scarlet Knights. "We're all really happy for T.J. and his family," said former SBHS Coach Rick Mantz last year. "It's a great fit at Rutgers. They've been on him for a while and he's been there unofficially to see a few games over the last few years. With (former …

Goerge Makes Quite a First Impression With Vikings

South Brunswick High School football head coach Joseph Goerge wins school's first football state championship in Vikings debut.

Talk about your first impressions. South Brunswick High School football head coach Joseph Goerge knew the expectations were high when he took over for Rick Mantz, who stepped down due to health concerns after guiding the Vikings to a school record 10-1 season in 2011. But he also knew he was taking over a team loaded with talent, which was on full display Saturday when SBHS won the first football state championship in school history with a 33-22 win in the Group V title game over previously unbeaten Manalapan. "It was a great year and a special thrill whenever you can get to a big game like that," Goerge said. "The way the team stayed together all year made it really special. These seniors were on their third coach in four years and they …

South Brunswick High School advances to first sectional championship in school history.

The second time wasn't the charm for Old Bridge Friday night, as the South Brunswick High School football team ground out a tough 14-7 victory while making history in the process. The Vikings are headed to a sectional championship for the first time in SBHS history against undefeated top seed Manalapan next weekend.  Once again for the Vikings it was the Dahrae Ford show against Old Bridge. After scoring four touchdowns in the first meeting, Ford put up 140 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead the way for South Brunswick. Quarterback T.J. Perkowski completed 8 of 10 passes for 155 yards. SBHS came out of halftime with a 7-0 lead after Ford's touchdown, but Old Bridge was able to tie the score early in the fourth quarter. After a 50-yard …

Vikings Face Undefeated Sayreville as Sanu's Number is Retired

Former South Brunswick High School star and current wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals Mohamed Sanu will have his number 2 jersey retired at halftime of the Vikings game against Sayreville.

The toughest test of the season is looming tonight for the South Brunswick High School football team as the Vikings honor the greatest athlete ever to suit up for SBHS. Mohamed Sanu will have his jersey number 2 retired Friday at halftime of the game against Sayreville. But first, the 6-1 Vikings must take care of business against the 7-0 Bombers. The Vikings went on the road and scored a resounding victory over Middletown North High School last week by a score of 40-17. After suffering their first loss of the season on Oct. 5 at Piscataway, SBHS rebounded with two straight dominating victories, including a 35-7 win over J.P. Stevens. T.J. Perkowski led the way for the Vikings last week with 104 rushing yards, 108 passing yards and two …

Vikings Back on The Road Friday Night

South Brunswick High School football will hit the road on Friday for a showdown with 1-4 Middletown North High School.

After recapturing their mojo with a blowout victory on homecoming weekend last Friday, South Brunswick High School will look to continue their winning ways on the road Friday night.  The 5-1 Vikings will travel to Middletown North High School tonight to take on the 1-4 Lions. SBHS will look for its second straight win after suffering their first loss of the season in a 47-14 loss at Piscataway two weeks ago. The Vikes rebounded at home with a 35-7 win over JP Stevens last Friday. "This was a challenge game," said South Brunswick Head Coach Joe Goerge. South Brunswick Football Rebounds For 35-7 Win

Homecoming crowd watches Vikings improve to 5-1.

Following his team's 35-7 win over JP Stevens on Homecoming, South Brunswick High football coach Joe Goerge started walking off the field and through an excited group of fans. Congratulations filled the air. "Great game, coach." "Great job, coach." Goerge waved and smiled, but it took a group of male students to stop the coach in his tracks. On a very cold night, the students had their shirts off and the school name painted on their collective chests. Seeing this, Goerge circled back and gave them all a high-five. "You guys are crazy," Goerge laughed. Life was good at South Brunswick. "This is the atmosphere I wanted," Goerge said. "I wanted the expectations. I wanted people to be excited. This is it." It was different than just the …

Vikings Return Home After First Loss

South Brunswick High School football will look to recapture their winning ways against J.P. Stevens Friday night.

After suffering their first loss of the season at Piscataway last week, South Brunswick High School football is hoping some home cooking is just what they need to shake off a tough defeat. Piscataway scored at least one touchdown in every quarter and went on to a 47-14 win over the 4-1 Vikings. South Brunswick began the second quarter down 13-0 and started a comeback, closing the deficit to 20-14 by halftime. TJ Perkowski connected on a 2-yard pass to Dion Hooper for the first score. Then, after Piscataway built its advantage to 20-7, Perkowski threw another touchdown pass. The second score was 11 yards to TJ Taylor. But Piscataway put the game out of reach scoring 27 unanswered points in the second half. "Now is the real test," said SBHS …
