A total of 24 homes suffered major damage, while one home experienced severe damage.
Sandy inflicted damage on 26 homes and rental units in South Brunswick and impacted nearly 2,000 township businesses, according to an analysis of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs data by NJSpotlight.com. One South Brunswick home suffered minor damages from the historic storm, while 24 homes suffered "major" damage, defined as between $8,000 and $28,800 in storm costs. Damage under $8,000 was considered "minor." Severe damage--defined as over $28,800 in costs--was reported in one home. The report shows that 1,812 South Brunswick businesses indicated they were impacted by Sandy. Tufts University Tufts University recently announced the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester. Among these students is Neethu Putta of Monmouth Junction, NJ, class of 2013. Dean's List honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater. Trinity College Nitin Sajankila of Dayton, NJ, a member of the class of 2013 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., has received Faculty Honors for the 2012 fall semester. Several cancellations have been announced in light of the impending nor'easter expected to impact South Brunswick through Thursday morning. All after school activities and evening events have been cancelled in the South Brunswick School District for Wednesday, March 6. Tonight's South Brunswick Planning Board Meeting has also been cancelled and has been rescheduled for March 13. Activities at the township Community Center are still scheduled for this evening. The Kendall Park, Kingston and Monmouth Junction first aid squads need new members to continue serving the community.
As the troubled economy has left its imprint on countless residents and businesses, volunteer community groups have not been immune from the challenges the recession has created. All three of South Brunswick's volunteer rescue squads are faced with recruiting new members at a time when so many throughout the community are working longer hours to make ends meet. "We have people working two, sometimes three jobs, and it's difficult to find the time," said Monmouth Junction First Aid President Marty Haller. It was a close win for the Crossroads Middle School staff in their annual showdown against the students in basketball on Wednesday. The staff eeked out a two point victory, 65-63 over the students in an event that brought costumes, fun and, of course, the Harlem Shake to Crossroads.
