Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in South Brunswick?
Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over South Brunswick and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. When people start lining up late Thanksgiving night to take advantage of door-buster deals in the wee hours Friday morning, will you be there?
Love it or hate it, Black Friday is the super bowl of shopping. And with its arrival only mere days away, East Brunswick is abuzz with people talking about the potential savings stores big and small have to offer. Some people create their own Black Friday “game plans” on what stores to hit and when after they've poured over the announced bargains various retailers have to offer. There are those so keen on saving they set alarms to wake them up in the wee hours of the night. To celebrate the fashion store’s arrival at Quaker Bridge Mall, there will be giveaways up to $300 for the first 100 shoppers in line on Nov. 15 and opening offers starting from $5, according to a news release issued by the mall in Lawrence Township.

The owners of La Taverna Restaurant and Bar, located at 375 Georges Road in Dayton, wishes to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. In an effort to do so, for the week of Nov. 19, 10 percent of every check will be donated to the “Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund." The restaurant will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will open on Nov. 25 for this fundraiser. So why don’t you stop in for a cozy meal, relax and help us make a difference. Small business owners who were impacted by Sandy need to be on a conference call at 2 p.m. Thursday with state and federal officials, says the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. Donate needed items to Hurricane Sandy victims at the Jersey Shore.
A group of South Brunswick businesses are joining together to aid residents of the Jersey Shore affected by Hurricane Sandy. Family Karate Super Center, LocalChatBox.com and Central Jersey Catering are collecting items to bring to several Jersey Shore towns that were devastated by the storm. There are specific items that first responders and shelters said are in desperate need. Please help by sending this message to everyone you know. Many teachers will be sending this out to the parents of their students to ask for the items and for student volunteers. Adult volunteers will be also needed. So please spare a few hours to help sort and also to help deliver to the Jersey Shore areas. Cardboard boxes are also needed to help with the delivery…

beachszq...thanks for the note. We are looking at some options as to how we can adopt a few schools in the shore area... Right now, we can only go as far as Toms River to donate supplies as they then take it and distribute south. Toms River is now a distribution point.
