Beekman Road and Route 27 Intersection Project Nearing Completion

Long awaited upgrades were held up as township waited for Verizon perform work on utility poles.

At long last, the improvement project for the Beekman Road and Route 27 intersection is finally nearing completion. Work on the project was delayed after Verizon was slow to remove wires from utility poles that were blocking the travel portion of the new roadway, according to Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz. "They've now completed their work and the contractor is expected back next week to finish construction," Schmalz said on Friday. The project seeks to alleviate some of the congestion issues on Beekman Road, which is regularly clogged by motorists making various turns and going to the shopping center across the street in Franklin Township.  An estimated 3,000 cars per day travel on Beekman as a connector between Route 1 and Route…

I hope that there will be a left turn arrow at the stop light when leaving Beekman Road and turning onto Route 27 (Lincoln Highway). This is one of the worst intersections to make a left turn in South Brunswick. I wonder with the new intersection, will there be a lot more traffic doing 50+ miles per hour going up and down Beekman Road during rush hours. Most drivers currently disreguard the …   more ›

Township Holds Groundbreaking for Route 27 and Beekman Road Intersection Upgrade

Approximately $1 million improvement project seeks to alleviate congestion at clogged intersection.

South Brunswick officially broke ground Saturday on a long anticipated improvement project at the intersection of Route 27 and Beekman Road. The improvement project includes widening the intersection, an improved turn radius, and the addition of a right-hand turn lane. The intersection will also receive a new traffic signal with right-hand turn only lighting.  "This is a long time coming and so many people have worked on this over the years," said Councilman Joseph Camarota earlier this year. The township went out to bond for the approximately $1 million improvement project about three years ago, but the work was delayed due to difficulties obtaining approval from the state. An estimated 3,000 cars per day travel on Beekman as a connector …

Long Awaited Route 27 Intersection Upgrade Gets Green Light from DOT

Route 27 and Beekman Road intersection to be widened, along with installation of a right-hand turn lane and a new traffic signal.

After nearly four years, South Brunswick Township has finally obtained Department of Transportation approval to begin work improving the intersection of Route 27 and Beekman Road. After the township went out to bond for the approximately $1 million project, the plan remained in limbo due to difficulties surrounding lighting at the intersection. "This took a long time but we finally got DOT approval," said Mayor Frank Gambatese. "After we get the permits we can go out to bid and that will take about 40 days, so hopefully this project will begin towards the end of September." The improvement project will include widening the intersection, an improved turn radius, and the addition of a right-hand turn lane. The intersection will also receive …

Definately a very bad idea to built the park and ride at the Beekman and Rte-27 intersection. Its not only risky, congestion will increase on Beekman and the Rt 27th intersection a lot too. How about building the park and ride at the suspended NorthUmberland way.   more ›
