New coach bringing family, enthusiasm to job.
In order to insure he can keep the sense of "family" associated with the South Brunswick High football program going, the new Vikings coach is bringing his with him. If you call out "Coach Goerge" at a South Brunswick High football game or practice, you will get a lot of reaction. Three guys are likely to turn around. Joseph Goerge is entering his 38th year as a coach, with 31 spent as the top man in the program. Goerge, 58, is also a married man with four children. Now, he has the luxury of combining the loves of his life. Michael and Jason -- two of his four children -- will be assistants on the South Brunswick team. T.J. Taylor will stay home to play college football for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights.
Following in the footsteps of recent South Brunswick High School football stars Mohamed Sanu and Jevon Tyree, current junior Vikings standout T.J. Taylor will be headed to Rutgers University to play college football after his senior year. Taylor made a verbal commitment to Coach Kyle Flood and the Scarlet Knights on Wednesday morning. "It's obviously exciting and we're really happy for him," said former SBHS football coach Rick Mantz, who resigned last month due to health concerns. "We're all really happy for T.J. and his family. It's a great fit at Rutgers. They've been on him for a while and he's been there unofficially to see a few games over the last few years. Rick Mantz is stepping down as head coach of the South Brunswick High School football team due to health concerns.
After one of the most successful seasons in the history of South Brunswick High School football, head coach Rick Mantz will be stepping down from the job. Mantz resigned earlier this week due to health concerns. “I really tried to figure out a way to make it work,’’ Mantz told NJ.com. “But I have to take care of some health issues and some family things." Mantz and SBHS Athletic Director Elaine McGrath could not be immediately reached for comment. Mantz, who will remain at SBHS as dean of students, according to NJ.com, said he would not be leaving for another coaching job and hopes to return to the sidelines one day. South Brunswick High School Coach Rick Mantz is among many in the community excited to see where former SBHS star Mohamed Sanu lands in the NFL Draft, which begins tonight.
A dream that was launched on the fields of South Brunswick High School will soon reach a culmination for Mohamed Sanu with the start of the NFL Draft tonight. Sanu’s path to the NFL was not an easy one, but for the Rutgers University record-setter's former head coach, Sanu's ability was obvious the moment he put on the Vikings' uniform. "Just watching Mohamed run around practice when he got here, we got the sense that this was a special player," said SBHS Coach Rick Mantz.
