Letter: South Brunswick Election Congratulations

Paul Saltin, Republican Candidate for South Brunswick Council

I would like to extend my congratulations and best wishes to my Democratic opponents on their victory at the Polls this past Tuesday. The experience of campaigning was very rewarding as I met so many wonderful people throughout the township. I'm grateful for the support I received from so many people; family, friends, neighbors and all the new folks that I've met along the way. To Councilman John O'Sullivan I'm sorry you will not be able to continue on the Council. You had but one interest and that was to continue working on behalf of the people of South Brunswick. I know you will not stop your efforts no matter what seat you occupy.  I’m proud of the effort and style of our campaign and extremely appreciative of the support we received …

Letter: Relieve Active Duty Township Residents in Armed Forces from Real Estate Taxes

Paul Saltin, Candidate South Brunswick Township Council

Thanks for serving. How do you say thank you to those men and women who sacrifice so much defending our country; allowing us to live in peace and enjoy our lives here in South Brunswick? As veterans, I along with my running-mate Councilman John O’Sullivan have just the way. On Tuesday October 23, 2012, Councilman O’Sullivan will ask the full council body to consider the following resolution authorizing the Township’s attorney, Donald Sears, to investigate the townships’ authority to create an ordinance stating the following: “Any South Brunswick resident on active military duty in the armed forces of the United States and deployed in a combat zone is relieved from paying township real estate taxes for that period of time while so deployed…

Renters are not assessed real estate taxes and as such would not be eligible. A spouse's position does not protect the deployed spouse from the danagers they face or the fear that they or their families face on a daily basis for their safe retuen. This proposal is not meant to distinguish between people of different economic positions. This proposal is to military personnel deployed in a combat …   more ›

Letter: Township Liquor Stores Should be Open Even Later

Paul Saltin, Candidate South Brunswick Township Council, Monmouth Junction

Several weeks ago the South Brunswick Township Council addressed the concern of a local liquor store owner. The issue is this: South Brunswick liquor stores must close at 5 p.m. on Sunday while neighboring communities allow their liquor stores to remain open until 10 p.m. The result is that the South Brunswick business owners are losing a tremendous amount of business not to mention the inconvenience to local customers. The Council deferred the matter to the police chief who wisely conducted a survey of the neighboring communities to determine if the extended hours resulted in an increase of alcohol related problems in their communities.    The answer was that there was no indication that the extended hours caused any problems.  There are …

Hi, I'm sorry for the delay in answering you post. I am still not completely familiar with how The Patch does things so I only just saw your post when I read your lastest post about military personnel. Allowing the liquor store owners the option to stay open to the later time does not require them to stay open. These owners can stay open to the maximum allowed time or they can close earlier if …   more ›
