No Fooling: Spring Weather Starts April on a High Note

Chance of showers today and Thursday with plenty of sun in the forecast

Spring is in the air for this first week of April and the National Weather Service says that should mean plenty of sunny days ahead even if the temperature only stays in the 40's.  Today looks to be the warmest day of the week with a high near 60 but there is at least a 20 percent chance of rain falling across our area. The rain should clear by tonight when the temperature will drop down to around 31 degrees for a chilly evening.  The high temperature for tomorrow looks to be near 45 on a mostly sunny day before dropping down near 28 when the sun sets. Wednesday and Thursday during the day look to be more of the same with a 30 percent chance of rain on Thursday night. The low temperature on Thursday night should be near 38.  Rain could …

Snow, Sleet May Make the Morning Commute a Mess

We're being pelted with a mix of snow, sleet, and ice; freezing temperatures by morning may mean you'll be slip-sliding to work.

Look out your window - there's more than just snow on the ground. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for the Middlesex County area. We're in for a mix of snow, sleet, and ice, with accumulations of up to 3 inches before it's all over early Tuesday morning. The combination of wintery precipitation is going to make traveling hazardous, the NWS warns. The mess will stop falling by 2 am, they say, but a combintion of cold windy gusts up to 25 mph and temperatures that aren't supposed to break out of freezing may mean the morning commute will be a nightmare.

Good News for Middlesex County - Snowstorm is Called Off

No big snow storm today for the central New Jersey region.

Just when the snow shovels, boots, and bags of salt have been called up for duty, the National Weather Service (NWS) has backed down on the snowstorm that was supposed to sock the central New Jersey area. The storm that was supposed to dump up to 4 inches of snow in the county has fizzled out. The NWS cancelled the winter weather advisory for the area late Wednesday night. They are saying the Middlesex County region can expect a coating of up to an inch of the white stuff, and that should be mostly deposited on grassy surfaces. A soaking wet rain, though, is expected to accompany what little snow we can expect throughout the day. There were some relatively minor power outages Wednesday. PSE&G reported that 1.170 customers in their service…

Up to 4 Inches of Snow, Strong Winds on the Way for Middlesex County

The National Weather Service says that the Middlesex County area can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow and winds gusting to 50 mph before the storm is over at dawn on Thursday

The central New Jersey-Middesex County area may get up to four inches of snow before the winter storm, expected to start late this afternoon, is through with the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting a snowfall of 2 to 4 inches by the time the storm ends by about dawn on Thursday. Mixed precipitation will start around 4 pm, which will turn to rain before another change back into snow this evening. The snow will taper off before it ends. Accompanying the snow is a severe wind advisory. The NWS says that our area will be in for winds ranging from 20 to 25 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph. The winds are expected to die down about midnight. All this weather is expected to create slushy road conditions. Drivers should be alert …

Wednesday Weather Looks Like a Mess

So far it looks like a sopping wet day with lots of precipitation but no major snowfall.

Early forecasts for winter weather for Wednesday look like precipitation all day, and much of it is a sopping mix of snow and freezing rain. The good news about the National Weather Service's early predictions for what tomorrow holds is that doesn't include massive snow fall. They are predicting less than an inch of snow before it's all over. The mix of rain and snow will be on and off all day Wednesday, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. The mix will turn to all snow after 1 a.m. on Thursday. Wind gusts up to 36 mph are expected.

Potential Storm's Track Varies for Middle of the Week

Mix of rain and snow expected

The forecast for the middle of the week is filled with question marks as the National Weather Service tracks a storm that could bring a variety of precipitation to our area.  Prior to the storm the forecast looks bright for today and tomorrow. The high for today is expected to be around 41 with winds near 21 MPH before a low of 26 tonight. Tomorrow looks to be a little warmer with a high near 47 on a mostly sunny day.  Tuesday night is when the forecast begins to change as there is a chance of rain before 5 a.m. that could turn to snow for a few hours before sunrise. As of Sunday afternoon, the forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday for most of our area is expected to get less than half an inch of precipitation.  The low temperature for …

Rain on Tuesday During Sunny Week

Forecast shows a break from snow early on

While many area schools are in session this President's Day, those lucky students who have off will be able to enjoy one of the nicer days of the week according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature for today is expected to be around 36 degrees with strong winds nearing 30 MPH, but with a rain drenched Tuesday in the forecast the sun will be a nice start to the week.  Tomorrow's high temperature looks to be around 49 degrees before a low of 29 at night but there is no snow in the forecast for much of the area. There is expected to be less than half an inch of precipitation during the day and night. Once the rain clears on Wednesday the temperature is predicted to set at a high near 40 before a low of 22 on an otherwise …

Winter Storm Watch Issued Through Saturday Morning

Total snowfall depends on track of the storm

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm watch for much of the local area as a potentially powerful storm makes its way up the east coast.  According to the watch the storm will likely develop near the Carolinas tomorrow and work its way to our area through Friday night. The storm will likely bring a mix of potentially heavy snow, sleet and rain as it moves on its path.  The amount of snow could vary depending on the track and speed of the storm but the most recent forecast predicts between 5 and 10 inches. The heaviest snow will likely fall in northwestern New Jersey and into the Poconos according to the watch.  Our area should start to see the snow Friday morning before mixing with the sleet and rain Friday night into …

Dense Fog & High Winds in the Forecast

Take heed of some wicked weather on the way.

The National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a dense fog alert for this morning, and some high winds for today through tomorrow. The dense fog advisory is in effect until 8 am this morning with visibility ranging less than one-quarter of a mile. In addition, the NWS is warning that a powerful storm developing in the Great Lakes region will play havoc with Central New Jersey's weather tonight through Thursday.  The high wind warning is in effect from 7 pm tonight through 4 am tomorrow. Winds are expected to range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 60 mph. The winds will precede an expected cold front that will send temperatures plummeting.
