The motorist advocacy group says that despite sluggish economy, Americans will take to their cars for the holiday.
In a recent press release, AAA Travel predicted that 33 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more during the Labor Day holiday weekend. That number represents a 2.9 percent increase from the 32.1 million people who traveled last year. AAA said total number of 2012 Labor Day holiday travelers is expected to reach a new post-recession high, and is the third increase in holiday travel this year, according to theAAA/IHS Global Insight 2012 Labor Day Holiday Travel Forecast. Work continues to be done throughout the area
On almost any other year, the focus around the Jersey Shore region this week would be on getting ready for the Labor Day Weekend. And while there is still a significant amount of excitement for the end of summer festivities, there is still a lot of work to be done to clean up from Hurricane Irene. According to AAA, before Hurricane Irene arrived last weekend more than 950 thousand people were expected to travel to our area. Extra buses will run on Friday; a holiday schedule for Labor Day
NJ Transit will offer “early getaway” rail and bus service beginning Friday, Sept. 2 for customers leaving work early for the Labor Day holiday weekend. On Friday, extra outbound trains will operate on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex and Pascack Valley lines starting at approximately 1 p.m. Extra buses will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on more than two-dozen bus routes starting around noon.
