South Brunswick High School football head coach Joseph Goerge knew the expectations were high when he took over for Rick Mantz, who stepped down due to health concerns after guiding the Vikings to a school record 10-1 season in 2011. But he also knew he was taking over a team loaded with talent, which was on full display Saturday when SBHS won the first football state championship in school history with a 33-22 win in the Group V title game over previously unbeaten Manalapan.
