In 2010, Sherrie and Mike Wells lost their 2-year-old son, Brady, to non-differentiated acute leukemia. Brady was diagnosed with the disease when he was just 13 months old. Motivated by their grief, the Wells started the Hugs For Brady Foundation in hopes of raising awareness for and advancing the fight against pediatric cancer. At last January’s Winter Gala, a fundraising event held by the philanthropy, the foundation announced they would be donating $50,000 to help fund a new pediatric oncology/hematology Young Investigator’s program at the The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. They expect to donate another $50,000 from this year’s gala. The gala, the third organized by Hugs for Brady, will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, from 6-11 p.m. at the …

South Brunswick families will have an opportunity to enjoy a day of fun in the sun while also helping a great cause this weekend. The Hugs for Brady Foundation's annual Family Fun Day event is returning Aug. 5 at Confectionately Yours on Route 27. The free event will feature 50/50 and tricky tray raffles, various carnival games, clowns, a bounce hut, a car show, face painting, a dunk tank, cotton candy, ice cream and much more. But the main focus of the event is blood platelet and bone marrow donation drives to help kids fighting cancer. "Our goals never change, which are to raise awareness first and foremost," said Hugs for Brady co-founder Sherrie Wells. "We need people to donate blood and bone marrow, and monetary donations are also …

Hugs for Brady and Confectionately Yours teaming up for the Blood Drive in Honor of Jake Holmes, a 5-year-old from Kendall Park with neuroblastoma.
Since 2010, South Brunswick's Hugs for Brady Foundation has worked tirelessly to raise awareness that kids get cancer too. Unfortunately, the township has several reminders of this stark fact, whether it be through the fight of 9-year-old South Brunswick child Brandon Dominguez with brain cancer, or through 5-year old Jake Holmes, of Kendall Park. Jake is currently waging his own battle with neuroblastoma. In honor of Jake, Hugs for Brady is teaming up with the Central Jersey Blood Center and Confectionately Yours to hold a blood drive this Sunday. "This is so important, because these children need blood on a routine basis for the transfusions they need in order to survive," said Hugs for Brady co-founder Sherrie Wells. "They need blood …

For many people, any Valentine's Day gift that doesn't include chocolate is no gift at all. So to avoid a hastily purchased last minute box of chocolates at a convenience store, South Brunswick's local experts on all things chocolate have one piece of advice: it's all about the quality. With nearly four decades of experience making chocolate, Confectionately Yours on Route 27 knows quite a bit about turning Valentine's Day into a success story. "Valentine's Day is one of the most fun holidays we have here," said co-owner Mary Gondek. "People line up out the door because they don't know where else to turn." While the family eatery still has an endless variety of sweets to satisfy every chocolate lover's basic Valentine's Day needs, for …

The Gondek family has owned and managed Confectionately Yours for three decades.
Like so many things wonderful, it all began with a piece of chocolate. For over 30 years, the Gondek family has helped satiate the local sweet tooth with Confectionately Yours, a sweet shop that converted to a family restaurant, yet remains a staple for chocolate lovers throughout the area. The fixture on Route 27 launched with a simple beginning, out of a love for chocolate. "My kids all went off to school, and I had six kids, so I didn't know what to do with myself," said Mary Gondek, who opened Confectionately Yours with husband Joe in 1981. "I started dabbling in candy-making and cake decorating, and we just evolved from that small store front into what we are today." For the Gondeks, the metamorphosis of Confectionately Yours over …

South Brunswick's Hugs for Brady Foundation will be holding a special event on Saturday, as a blood drive, toy drive, and food drive will be ongoing throughout the day at Confectionately Yours on Route 27. Hugs for Brady began in honor Kendall Park infant Brady Wells, who died in July 2010 at the age of 23 months after a difficult battle with pediatric leukemia. Brady's parents Mike and Sherrie Wells started the Hugs for Brady Foundation with the goal of helping the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital (BMSCH) fight the ongoing battle against pediatric cancer. This Saturday, the Wells will continue their mission to support local kids with cancer, as the Central Jersey Blood
Center is …
