South Brunswick families will have an opportunity to enjoy a day of fun in the sun while also helping a great cause this weekend. The Hugs for Brady Foundation's annual Family Fun Day event is returning Aug. 5 at Confectionately Yours on Route 27. The free event will feature 50/50 and tricky tray raffles, various carnival games, clowns, a bounce hut, a car show, face painting, a dunk tank, cotton candy, ice cream and much more. But the main focus of the event is blood platelet and bone marrow donation drives to help kids fighting cancer. As the tragic reality of kids afflicted with cancer hit home in South Brunswick this week with the death of 9-year-old Brandon Dominguez, Monmouth Junction's Family Karate Super Center is doing their part to help raise money for the fight. The center will be participating in the 2012 Central Jersey CureSearch Walk on June 10 in Edison, with about 100 volunteers signed up for the event. "As part of the Family Karate Leadership Team, we want to help build a better community by taking part in this walk on Sunday," said Mike Lagunovich, 16, an assistant instructor and student at South Brunswick High School. The Day by Day Hope Foundation provides help with day to day needs for those battling cancer, in addition to assisting with financial, legal and insurance issues.
For people fighting the horrors of cancer, a little hope can go a long way. South Brunswick's Day by Day Hope Foundation was started to provide aid to middle class citizens with cancer who need help with everyday needs. The foundation was started by South Brunswick mother Cheryl Confalone, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. "We've been really fortunate and have seen a lot of people willing to help so far," Confalone said. "This is a serious problem. Kendall Park alone has about a dozen families with someone fighting cancer right now." The foundation provides assistance for financial, legal and insurance issues to families affected by cancer.
