The governor said Friday that Rutgers president Robert L. Barchi is making the right decision to seek new leadership for the athletics department.

Tim Pernetti's resignation is "appropriate and necessary" Gov. Chris Christie said Friday. The governor thanked Pernetti for his contributions as athletic director of Rutgers University, and said university president Robert L. Barchi made the right leadership decision in seeking new leadership for the athletics department. “This entire incident was regrettable and while it has damaged the reputation of our state University, we need to move forward now on a number of fronts which provide great opportunities for Rutgers’ future," Christie said, in a prepared statement. Rutgers released a letter of resignation today from Pernetti to Barchi in which he said that he'd seen video of Rice verbally and physically abusing players, brought his …

Pernetti was screwed. Also, people need to stop complaining about the salaries. These folks work 7 days a week/ 12 plus hours a day. In order to attract top people, they need to paid fairly. Now, whether or not Barchi is a quality President- we can debate that.   more ›

A group of 13 Rutgers faculty members are petitioning for the resignation of university president Robert L. Barchi. According to a report by the Associated Press, the teachers are calling for Barchi to resign over his handling of the firing of head basketball coach Mike Rice, who was terminated Wednesday following the release of a video showing abusive coaching techniques. Should Mike Rice Have Been Fired?

The head basketball coach was terminated on Wednesday after a controversial video surfaced containing footage of Rutgers basketball practices. Was it the right decision?

Rutgers University Athletics Director Tim Pernetti announced Wednesday that head basketball coach Mike Rice has lost his job following the release of a video showing Rice shoving and kicking players and using obscene and offensive language during practices. Was it the right move? Pernetti has confirmed that the video was brought to his attention in fall 2012, brought to him by former director of player development Eric Murdock. An independent investigation was launched at that time, and Pernetti ordered a three-game suspension of Rice in December, and fined him $50,000, for a loss of approximately $75,000 in pay during the suspension, according to NJ.com.  Rice was also ordered to attend anger management counseling and was monitored at …

o Realistic Person: I have read many of your posts and once again you have demonstrated your incapacity to comprehend the facts of a given situation. This goes WAY beyond name calling. If you have taken the time to view the videos you will see pushing, shoving, kicking, punching, object throwing, screaming etc. This goes WAY beyond what a reasonable person would consider "just doing my job" as a …   more ›

UPDATED: Rutgers Fires Rice

Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has confirmed that Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice has lost his job.

After less than a day of deflecting a storm of bad press surrounding head basketball coach Mike Rice's coaching methods, Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has confirmed that Rice has been fired. Rutgers Athletics said Rice's termination was based on the recent "issues" as well as "a review of previously discovered issues." “I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” Pernetti said, in a prepared statement. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Moving forward, I will work to regain the trust of the Rutgers community.” On Tuesday, a video surfaced of Rice yelling offensive language and shoving and…
