SBPL Gala Dinner, Psychic Fair Around South Brunswick This Weekend

Monmouth Junction Firehouse holding scavenger hunt, fashion show in other area events this weekend.

Book and Author Gala Dinner, South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Ln, Monmouth Junction, 6:30 p.m.

John Searles, author of the best-selling novels Boy Still Missing and Strange But True, will be the featured author at this year's Book and Author Gala Dinner brought to you by the South Brunswick Library Foundation.  His newest novel Help for the Haunted will be out in September and everyone who attends this festive event will received a copy of the book at the dinner. For ten years, John Searles has appeared regularly as a book critic on NBC's The Today Show and CBS's The Early Show.  He is also Editor-at-Large of Cosmopolitan.  His essays have been published inThe New York Times, The Washington Post, The Daily Beast and other national publications.  

This year, the fundraiser will be held in the Library starting at 6:30 p.m. with Hors d'oeuvres.  There will be a buffet dinner served at 7:00 p.m. and the Author Presentation will start at 8:00 p.m.  Dessert will be served following the presentation, when Mr. Searles will be available for book signing.  The cost of the event will be $65 per person; tickets can be purchased online at www.sbpl.info/foundation

The World Goes 'Round, Playhouse 22, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, 8 p.m.

The World Goes 'Round is a musical revue showcasing the songs of John Kander and Fred Ebb. The show consists of a collection of songs from Chicago, Cabaret and Funny Lady. Performances are Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available atwww.Playhouse22.org by phone at 732-254-3939 or at the box office window.

Annual Scholarship Fashion Show & Luncheon, Pines Manor, Edison, 11 a.m.

Professional models from the Vogue Esquire Company of Chicago will model haute couture. Full sit down luncheon, music, door prizes, silent auction, 50/50, raffles and more.

Para-X Psychic Fair, East Brunswick Elks, 21 Oakmont Avenue, East Brunswick, 1 p.m.

Gypsy Moon will be performing. $5door admission, food, drink and readings are a separate cost. Proceeds in part benefit Elks Scholarship Committee. There will also be a “Walking Dead” zombie costume contest.

Fire Prevention Week Open House, Monmouth Junction Fire Station 20, 573 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, 1 p.m.

The annual Fire Prevention Week open house will feature a scavenger hunt for fire safety, free soft pretzels, hot dogs and drinks while supplies last. Attendees are tasked with answering fire safety questions, demonstrating skills, learning from others' mistakes while having some fun along the way. Prizes will be given for correct answers.
