Roller Derby, Block Party Highlight South Brunswick Weekend

Events in and around town this weekend.

Friday

South Brunswick Jazz Cafe, South Brunswick Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction. 

On Oct. 11, South Brunswick's Jazz Café series of monthly Friday night concerts presents Paul Plumeri. One part technician, one part poet and one part guitar craftsman, Plumeri has been playing his own style of blues in and around Trenton and eastern Pennsylvania clubs for more than three decades.

Saturday

Block Party and Official Grand Opening57 Sand Hills Rd., Kendall Park, noon.

This event will serve as the official, "hard" Grand Opening of the Sand Hills Community Wellness Center at 57 Sand Hills Rd. in Kendall Park. For further information, please visit:  www.feedingallwhohunger.com/block-party.html or call 732-297-9182. A number of the most popular instructors will give free demo classes throughout the afternoon. There will be a variety of activities suitable for kids as well. Members of the Wellness Board will give tours of the Wellness Center facilities rain or shine. Weather permitting, there will also be free live music outdoors and the youth group of the Community Presbyterian Church will provide food at a nominal cost. Also weather permitting, there will be outdoor field games for children and the children's playground will be open later in the afternoon. During this educational and eye-opening walk through the colorful woods of the preserve, you will learn about a variety of trees and their importance to the wildlife in the forest community.  Participants will connect with nature while learning the reasons for seasonal changes.

New Jersey Hellrazors Roller Derby, Kendall Park Roller Rink, 3550 Rt. 27, Kendall Park, 6:30 p.m.

Kendall Park’s Hellrazors take on the Dolls of Destruction from Troy, PA, at the Kendall Park Roller. Ticket costs are $10 general admission,$12 at the door, and free for kids under age 10. Public service workers receive $2 off at the door if they show a badge. All ages are welcome. 

South Brunswick Soccer Club Spring Travel Team TryoutsHarvest Woods Park, Culver Rd, Dayton, 6:30 p.m.

U9 Girls travel team tryouts from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. All players must be pre-registered for tryouts online.  Please complete the tryout registration on the SBSC website at http://www.sbsoccer.org/. Participants must wear shin guards and appropriate clothing to the tryouts. No travel uniforms can be worn during tryouts. Please read the tryout procedures on the website for more information.
