Special Evening of Music Planned to Benefit Food Pantry

Congregation B'nai Tikvah will host a concert to raise funds and collect food for for the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

As the summer months typically mean a lull in donations to the South Brunswick Food Pantry, Congregation B’nai Tikvah will be holding a special event to remind residents that helping the less fortunate is a year-round job.

In association with the South Brunswick Area Clergy Association, B’nai Tikvah will host a special evening of music on June 16 at 7 p.m. with the goal of raising funds, collecting food and raising awareness for local food initiatives, particularly the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

"I am thrilled that my synagogue is running this event, and we hope this will become an annual program," said South Brunswick Social Services Director LouAnne Wolf.  "This is a great way to listen to a variety of music played by a variety of local clergy and congregants."

Featured performers include Makhelat Hamerkaz, The Jewish Choir of Central Jersey under the directions of Cantor Sheldon Levin and Cantor Anna West Ott. Other featured performers include members of the clergy association, with Reverend Beth Scibienski of Community Presbyterian, Reverend Osy Nuesch of Six Mile Run Reformed Church and Reverend Edwin Arumanayagam of the Nava Jeevan, who will perform with Cantor Bruce Rockman and The Sons of Tikvah Band.

"Our music raises people’s spirits," Rockman said.  "We hope that we can encourage our community to add even more support to the already inspired effort of South Brunswick Social Services Director LouAnne Wolf and her staff. LouAnne’s determined effort has moved us, and we are trying to remind our community of the continuous need to support initiatives such as the local food pantry.  In essence we are thanking the community for their support.
