Girl Scout Troop 81737 needs donations so they can deliver boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the hospitalized troops at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Girl Scout Troop 81737, of South Brunswick are accepting donations so they may personally deliver boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the hospitalized troops at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland.

The girls, who are all Scout Ambassadors, will be travelling there on June 22.

“We have been sending cookies to the troops overseas for years,” said troop leader Gina Zielinski. "But this year we wanted to let the troops who returned with injuries and are hospitalized to know that we have not forgotten them and appreciate their service.”

Before its monthly meeting, Lt. John Farnkopf, of American Legion Post 401 in South Brunswick, presented members of the troop with a donation for the cookies.

“The American Legion is all about supporting our troops, our veterans and our community,” said post commander Gary Cooper. “Girl Scout cookies are a part of Americana. We’ve been eating them since we were kids. Post 401 is proud to support this project, and we thank the girls and their leaders for bringing a taste of home to our hospitalized troops. I encourage other organizations and residents to support their endeavor so everyone in that hospital gets a box of cookies.”
