South Brunswick Girl Scout Presents Dance Showcase to Aid Food Pantry

Come out on Saturday to South Brunswick High School, as a senior at SBHS will put on a dance showcase to aid the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

With the South Brunswick Food Pantry for Thanksgiving, a local Girl Scout will be presenting a dance showcase this weekend to help fill the empty shelves of the pantry, while also promoting good health. For her Girl Scout Gold Award, South Brunswick High School senior Preethi Kamath is seeking to encourage dance as a way of staying healthy.

"I've been a Girl Scout for 13 years and for my Gold Award I wanted to do something I'm passionate about, so I chose dance," Preethi said. "My project is a showcase that promotes dance as a way of staying healthy and exercising to combat the rising obesity rate."

Preethi and her dance partner, Atul Divakarla, have been teaching four different dance classes to kids, teens, Girl Scouts and adults. At the dance showcase on Saturday, their four classes will be performing along with professional dance schools like Aum Dance Creations, the American Ballet Academy, Qing Yang Dance Studio and Full Throttle. There will be multiple dance styles on display, including hip-hop, house, shuffling, Chinese, tap, salsa, Bollywood, lyrical and ballet.

"There's going to be a lot of different types of dancing to show that it doesn't matter how young or how old you are, anyone can dance for exercise and have fun with it," Preethi said.

The showcase will be held on Saturday Nov. 19, starting at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Preethi said she's hoping for an audience of at least 200 people.
