Fireworks for a Cause on July 2 at Crossroads

Help Hugs for Brady in the fight against pediatric cancer this Saturday at South Brunswick's Independence Day Festival.

Why go to the movies this Saturday, July 2, when you can enjoy fireworks for a cause!  The Township of South Brunswick has partnered with the Hugs for Brady Foundation to raise awareness and money for local children afflicted with cancer.

Hugs for Brady Foundation, whose tag line is “Helping Kids with Cancer, One Hug at a Time…” will be selling glow sticks, glow necklaces, glow bracelets, t-shirts, and really awesome LED light-up baseball caps at the event.

This is a 100 percent volunteer organization.  Best Buy of South Brunswick will have 50 employees volunteering their personal time to help with this amazing cause.

The manager of Best Buy in South Brunswick, Dinesh Ramchandani, states that the Hugs for Brady Foundation won his heart from the beginning.  Best Buy has donated a lot of electronics, thousands of dollars, and many volunteers to make sure that this foundation is successful, the children deserve it.

All donations will be put towards their $300,000 goal to provide the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a fellowship program for the pediatric hematology oncology unit.  New Jersey has only one approved fellowship program for kids with cancer.

Unfortunately, the state has cut the fellowships funding out completely.  The fellowship would require a three-year position, working with the best pediatric oncology doctors, with 50 percent of their time dedicated to clinical duties and 50 percent dedicated to researching a CURE for pediatric cancer.

This is not a position that should ever be cut out of a budget.  At this point, the Hugs for Brady Foundation is relying on the generosity of the public to help our sick children.  Sherrie Wells states that children do not choose to get cancer, so please, won’t you help?
