Thunderstorms May Overshadow Holiday Fireworks

Thunderstorms possible throughout the week.

There are Independence Day fireworks scheduled all over the area this week, but Mother Nature may have other ideas, according to the National Weather Service. There is at least a chance of thunderstorms all through the week, especially at night, according to the latest forecast.

The high for Monday should be around 82 degrees but there is a 70 percent chance of heavy rainfall that could amount to almost half an inch before the storm passes. Another half an inch could fall tonight with a low of a still warm 70 degrees in the forecast.

The northern part of the state may see more severe weather Monday morning, as the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 9:45 and a flash flood warning until 11:30 in places like Union County, according to the most recent forecasts.

Tuesday looks to be similar with a 60 percent chance of showers during the day and a high near 83 before dropping down to 69 at night with a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. The forecast still calls for at least a 30 percent chance of storms on Wednesday with a slightly higher temperature near 87 during the day. When the sun sets the mercury should fall closer to 72 with still a 30 percent chance of showers.

Independence Day should be warm across Middlesex County with a high near 88 with a 30 percent chance of showers still lingering in the forecast. The low temperature should be around 72 degrees and it is also the last forecast of rain for the week according to the latest predictions.

Heading into the weekend Friday’s forecast calls for a high near 89 with a low of 72 at night on an otherwise sunny day. Saturday’s high could hit 90 before dropping back down to 71 at night.
