Vikings Fall to Sayreville in Tough Road Loss

Second half collapse leads to 35-13 loss to Central Jersey powerhouse.

It was a tough second half for the South Brunswick High School football team Friday as the Vikings fell hard at Sayreville by a score of 35-13.

SBHS led 13-7 in the third quarter on an 18-yard Amir Johnson run before the Bombers grabbed the lead on the legs of star running back Myles Hartsfield, who would collect 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win.

A few plays later, Sayreville would recover a fumble on a bad snap and never looked back in cruising to victory.

South Brunswick's two headed rushing attack of senior Dahrae Ford and junior Dontae Strickland was held in check during the game, as Ford rushed for 25 yards on seven carries with one touchdown, while Strickland was held to 15 yards on seven carries.

Johnson led the offensive attack for South Brunswick, rushing for 111 yards on 16 carries with one touchdown. Johnson also went 6-for-16 with 43 yards passing the ball.

SBHS falls to 5-3 with the loss, but the reigning champions are still mathematically alive for the Central Jersey Group V playoffs.
