The South Brunswick Vikings 10U Black went 2-1 in the 2011 Cal Ripken High Heat Tournament in Aberdeen, Maryland.

The South Brunswick Vikings 10U Black traveled out to Aberdeen, Maryland to participate in the 2011 Cal Ripken High Heat Tournament.

The boys traveled out to the famous Cal Sr. Field, where the Ripken World Series is played each year.  The Academy is complete with numerous batting cages, two FieldTurf training areas, and many other amenities that make it a first class tournament destination for teams across the nation.

The tournament featured 14 of the finest teams in four different states. In the first game, the Vikings played the Catonsville Cubs in the famous Cal Sr. Field where they won 11-1 by a 5th inning mercy rule.

Three hours later, the boys were playing at a replica of Fenway Park, where they faced the LUYAA Lightning, a home team from Maryland.

The boys came out early scoring two runs in the first inning and never gave up through the next five innings of the game. The Vikings came out victorious once again 6-3, holding the Lightning to just five hits and eight strike outs.

The next day for the boys brought another challenge, where the Vikings faced the Lakeshore Graysox from Pasadena, MD. The boys came out swinging and not backing away from the Graysox.

The game was a continuous battle where the boys never gave up inning after inning. In the 5th inning, the boys turned a beautiful double play to get things fired up, but unfortunately came up short losing to the Graysox 4-1.

"As I told the boys, they all should be proud of their accomplishments and the memories they made!" said Andrew Goldsmith coach of the Vikings. "These kids are a special group of baseball players that have gained a tremendous amount of experience for being 10-years-old."

The Vikings finished the 2011 High Heat Tournament 2-1, allowing only eight runs in three games. They continue their momentum this week where they are 5-0 in the Cranford 10U Tournament, scoring 55 runs and taking the number one seed. They play Millburn on Wednesday night in the semi-finals.
