South Brunswick Wrestling Adds Four Wins in Busy Two Days

Vikings improve to 9-1 on the season

The South Brunswick High School wrestling team had a busy -- and very productive -- day on Saturday.

Wrestling at home, South Brunswick defeated Colonia (54-6), JFK Iselin (44-22) and East Brunswick (45-19).

"We wrestled pretty well on Saturday," South Brunswick Coach Joe Dougherty said. "Not everyone wrestled three matches. We got a lot of different kids in there. We're trying to get everyone some varsity experience and help out with our team depth."

In the match against East Brunswick, Tyler Jaramillo (152), Jake Pietrefesa (160), Ali Yildiz (171), Kevin Moses (heavyweight) and Fran White (135) all won by pins. Jordan Pagano (112), Justin Lopez (125), Dallas Siegel (215), Chad Capraro (119) and Tommy Dorsay (130) won by decision.

Against Colonia, Chad Capraro (119), Tommy Dorsay (125), Luke Rimmer (145) and Tyler Jaramillo (160) won by pin. Jordan Pagano (112) won by forfeit. Lucas Del Piano (189), Kevin Moses (heavyweight), James Pagano (152), Parth Patel (103), Steve Mastro (135) and Fran White (130) won by decision.

"This may not have been our greatest day of wrestling, but it was certainly above average," Dougherty said. "Obviously, I'm talking about certain spots. Some guys did better than others. Overall, it was a good day."

This was a good simulation of what the various tournaments at the end of the season will be like. After all, not only did it have a busy day on Saturday, the South Brunswick wrestlers were also up against Piscataway on Friday.

"The Piscataway match was snowed out on Wednesday, and I was thinking about the tournaments when it was moved to Friday," Dougherty said. "There's no way to simulate an actual match in practice. We'll find out how well it worked out when we get to the county and sectional tournaments."

South Brunswick won that match -- pushed back by the snow storm -- 44-21.

"This match was a little different," Dougherty said. "The match was right after school and we didn't get the chance to prepare like we normally do. We were a little sluggish, but we did okay."

Tommy Dorsay (125), Dave Dominguez (135) and Constantine Rissiotis (140) won by pin. Jordan Pagano (112) and Justin Lopez (119) both won by forfeit. Fran White (130), Luke Rimmer (145), Tyler Jaramillo (152) and Lucas Del Piano (189) won by decision.

South Brunswick is scheduled to wrestle at South Plainfield on Jan. 19. This weekend, South Brunswick will be very busy. It is scheduled to wrestle at West Windsor North on Friday,  with Ewing and Robbinsville also taking part in the quad match. On Saturday, South Brunswick will host Sayreville, Edison and Livingston.

"Six matches in two days is going to help our guys," Dougherty said. "It's a big part of conditioning. It's all part of the plan to help make these guys better wrestlers."

Thus far, South Brunswick has proved its a pretty good team with a 9-1 regular season mark. This, however, is not a team that will be satisfied with just a good regular season mark.
