South Brunswick Upsets East Brunswick to Advance in Boys' Soccer Playoffs

The South Brunswick girls fell in the first round.

South Brunswick pulled off the upset of top-seeded East Brunswick to advance to the semifinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 playoffs, according to nj.com.

South Brunswick came into the playoffs as the No. 8 seed, and set up the meeting with East Brunswick with a 2-1 win over No. 9 West Windsor-Plainsboro North. Tommy Dorsay and Kyle Goodwin scored in the win. Goalie Erich Kaiser made four saves.

Despite being the No. 1 seed, East Brunswick slipped by No. 16 North Brunswick, 1-0, in the first round. Dominic Bohorquez scored for East Brunswick in the second half. Goalie Dennis Kotenko made three saves.

East Brunswick tripled its scoring output when it met up with South Brunswick, but it wasn’t enough, as South Brunswick won, 5-3.

South Brunswick jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead en route to the win.

Kyle Goodwin led the way for South Brunswick with two goals. Other goals came from Patrick Grudnick, Paul Grudnick and Harrison Kudwitt. Goalie Erich Kaiser made five saves.

Joshua Barkoff scored twice for East Brunswick. Joey Gudzak scored the other goal. Goalie Dennis Kotenko made four saves.

South Brunswick visits No. 5 Monroe in the semifinals.

No. 8 South Brunswick was upset by No. 9 Manalapan, 2-1, in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 playoffs.

Miho Yamada was responsible for South Brunswick’s only goal in the contest, with an assist from Taylor Brantley. Goalie Sydney Schneider made eight saves.
