South Brunswick Track Teams Continue Great Seasons

Viking squads win division, GMC and relay titles.

Having already proven they are the best teams in Middlesex County, the South Brunswick High School boys and girls track squads will now see how they stack up against the rest of the state.

The South Brunswick teams will compete in the Central Jersey Group IV sectionals on May 25-26 at Hillsborough High School. South Brunswick will try and continue a remarkable season, which includes the boys and girls already winning the division, the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship and the GMC relays.

"This is the first time that we have completed the triple crown of winning the division, relay and track championships," noted South Brunswick boys coach Wilfredo Rivera.

The South Brunswick boys won the GMC title on May 12. South Brunswick scored 80 points, topping the 66 by Sayreville. This is the second time South Brunswick has won the title, adding to its victory in 1994.

"The Vikings were led by double event place winners Adam Dickert, Jaleel Alston, Darrell Harper, Matt Tamasi, Jonathan Pitt, Tre Tisdale, and triple event place winner Kaseem Davis," Rivera noted.

The South Brunswick girls scored points in 13 of the 16 events contested to win the GMC for the seventh year in a row.

"The girls performed at a high level throughout the meet," South Brunswick girls coach Stefan Moorhead said. "We showed that we have star power, as evidenced by the fact that we had five athletes win their events, but we also have depth, since we scored in 13 out of 16 events and had a total of 15 athletes score points."

The lone win for the South Brunswick boys came in the 4x400. Tre Tisdale, Matt Tamasi, Jose Baxter and Kaseem Davis set a new school record with a time of 3:21.23.

Lindsay Carbone set a personal best of 10' 6" to win the pole vault.

"Lindsay Carbone won her second straight GMC title in the pole vault, with a big PR of 10-6," Moorhead said. "She has only been involved in the sport since her junior year, so it is nice to see how much she has progressed in a short period of time."

Danielle Padovano won the discus (a personal best 119 feet). She also placed third in the shot put (34' 6 1/2").

Julia Lekht won the long jump with a distance of 16' 5 3/4". Lekht also added a second in the triple jump (35' 1 1/4").
