South Brunswick will have to wait awhile to get to 10-0. The 46-30 win over the hosts from Monroe in the Brunswick Classic title game was the final game of 2011. South Brunswick will be back in action when it hosts Woodbridge on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

"It's been an amazing year so far," Roberts said.

South Brunswick's strong start isn't unexpected. Greatly helping the team to a 5-0 start are a pair of Danielles -- Roberts and Padovano, both only juniors.

"We've been playing together our whole lives," Padovano said. "We both played this summer in leagues and that was one of the first times we weren't on the same team."

The skills of Roberts and Padovano were both on display in the Brunswick Classic. Padovano is a force inside and Roberts can knock down three-pointers.

Padovano had her big game in an opening 51-45 win against North Brunswick on Dec. 27. Padovano scored 21 points in that win. Roberts scored 11 points and Jackie Harrison added eight points.

Despite the win, Padovano thought it was an off day for her team.

"We didn't have the chemistry we usually do," Padovano said.

Added Roberts, "We weren't at our best, but we still got the win."

The championship game offered up less of a challenge for South Brunswick. Padovano and Roberts both connected on three-pointers to get South Brunswick off to an early 6-0 lead.

South Brunswick was up 12-4 after the first quarter, 22-12 at the half and 37-18 after three quarters. South Brunswick was up by so much that Coach Beth Barrio was able to play the substitutes for most of the second half.

"We're excited for this season because we have a really good team," Roberts said. "We hang out together. We're like a family."

Added Padovano, "Everyone contributes. We have a whole team."

Padovano and Roberts each scored 14 points in the win. Maya Hamilton scored eight points.

Earlier in the year, South Brunswick posted wins against Old Bridge (52-32), Piscataway (60-50) and JP Stevens (63-13).

Against JP Stevens, Padovano scored 17 points, Hamilton 14 and Ashley DeGroff 12 points.

Against Piscataway, Padovano scored 24 points, DeGroff 13 and Roberts 10 points.

"We're excited about the season," Roberts said. "We just have to keep it going."
