South Brunswick Girls Basketball Opens Tournaments with Win

Vikings will host Marlboro in states on Feb. 28.

The South Brunswick High School girls basketball team got its tournament season off to a good start with a 51-40 over Monroe on Feb. 16.

South Brunswick took a 14-8 lead after a quarter and built its advantage to 25-15 at the half and 38-24 after three quarters in its Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament opener.

Danielle Padovano recorded 20 points and five rebounds in the win. Bianca Celi added 12 points and eight rebounds.

South Brunswick will open play in the Central Jersey Group IV Tournament on Feb. 28 when it hosts Marlboro. South Brunswick is the eighth seed and Marlboro is seeded ninth.

Following its win over Monroe, South Brunswick is 14-6 on the season. This includes several regular season games last week.

On Feb. 7, South Brunswick defeated East Brunswick, 40-31.

Bianca Celi scored 15 points and Danielle Padovano added 13 points in the win.

South Brunswick was defeated by Edison, 50-36, on Feb. 9.

Bianca Celi scored 14 points in the loss.

South Brunswick defeated Spotswood, 47-43, on Feb. 10.

Ashley DeGroff scored 16 points and Danielle Padovano added 15 points for South Brunswick.
