South Brunswick Girls Basketball Eliminated from Playoffs

Top-seeded Trenton advances

The season came to an end for the South Brunswick High School girls basketball team Wednesday night at Trenton. South Brunswick was defeated by Trenton, 56-39.

Even in defeat, there were definite positives in the setback. Despite falling behind 37-13 by the half in this Central Jersey Group IV quarterfinal game, South Brunswick was able to throw a little scare into the top-seeded Trenton squad.

South Brunswick shot an astounding 11-of-12 from the field in the second half. South Brunswick managed to cut its deficit to 39-29 at one point.

Bianca Celi scored 15 points for South Brunswick. Danielle Padovano added nine points and eight rebounds.

 South Brunswick finished the season with a record of 14-9, an improvement on the team's 13-12 mark in 2009-10. Those 14 wins included a victory in both the Greater Middlesex Conference and Central Jersey Group IV tournaments.

"This is a good team," South Brunswick Coach Beth Barrio noted.

Members of the team are Danielle Roberts, Kelly O'Brien, Ashley DeGroff, Bianca Celi. Danielle Padovano, Vanessa Perdomo, Hailey Hendrickson, Jacki Harrison, Maya Hamilton and Vicki Jackson.

"This team had some nice accomplishments this year," Barrio said. "I'm proud of them."
