South Brunswick Boys Track Second in GMC Relays

Vikings improve to 6-0.

The South Brunswick High School boys track team has had a busy -- and very productive -- past couple of weeks.

South Brunswick placed second in the GMC Relays, took part in the Penn Relays and also improved to 6-0 on the regular season.

In the GMC Relays, hosted by South Brunswick on May 3-4, the Vikings placed second with 75 points. Of the 16 teams that scored, South Brunswick trailed only Old  Bridge (80 points).

South Brunswick's best finish was a first in the discus (401' 2"). Dominck Padovano had a throw of 161' 2". Vic Battagliotta (120' 9") and Adam Dickert (119' 3") were the other two individuals competing for South Brunswick.

Padovano also helped South Brunswick place third in the shot put relay (138' 6"). Padovano had the third best shot put with a distance of 49' 4".

For Padovano, this was a continuation of the success he had in the Penn Relays last week. He was ninth in the discus with a throw of 166' 6".

"Dominick Padovano is a composed and determined athlete," South Brunswick Coach Wilfredo Rivera said. "Though Dom missed making the finals by a mere inch, he competed with honor and confidence. This was the third year that Dom was invited to compete at the Penn Relays and its just shows the value of consistency and hard work."

South Brunswick also competed in the 4x100 and 4x400 at the Penn Relays.

The 4x100 team of Tyrin Fairman, Kotey Ashie, Kaseem Davis and Jaleel Alston ran a time of  44.78. The 4x400 team of Juwan Tisdale, Tyrin Fairman, Kaseem Davis and Kotey Ashie) finishing second in their heat with a time of 3:27.38.

"Penn relays was a great meet for our guys," Rivera said. "To have the opportunity to run at a meet with such great tradition is a privilege. I feel like our guys ran tough and no one more than Kotey Ashie. Kotey got the baton in the 4x400 in fifth place and blasted out and ran a strong and aggressive leg. His split of 49.35 is a testament to his hard work and desire to win."

The 4x400 team placed third in the GMC with a time of 3:29.12. The 400 relay (three guys) was third in a time of 2:58.02.

The 4x1600 team of Mike Weber, Tyler Blackburn Hiten Doshi and Matt Eder placed second in a time of 18:32.67.

Jaleel Alston had a good showing in the long jump and pole vault. He jumped 20' 2" to help South Brunswick place third as a team in the long jump (58' 7 1/2"). Alston cleared 12 feed to help South Brunswick place second in the pole vault  (33').

Jonathan Pitt covered a distance of 42' 7 3/4" to help South Brunswick place second in the GMC triple jump.

In other results, the distance medley was third (11:01.47), the 4x800 fifth (8:18.32), the sprint medley third (3:41.55), the sprint medley second (3:54.37) and the 4x200 sixth.

On Apr. 26, South Brunswick defeated St. Joes, 83-57.

"We beat a well balanced team and it was a great tuneup for the Penn and GMC relays," Rivera noted.
