South Brunswick Boys Lacrosse Improves to 6-1

Violante and Peterson notch hat tricks.

The South Brunswick High School boys lacrosse team is off to a great start. Even so, Coach Mark Ziminski believes his team can get even better.

South Brunswick picked up its fifth win of the season with a 15-9 victory over Monroe. While a six-goal advantage is substantial, Ziminski knows his players weren't at their best.

"We are trying to find consistency in our overall play as the team gave up way too many goals against Monroe," Ziminski said.

A more complete effort came two days later when South Brunswick defeated Toms River South, 11-2, on Apr. 16.

In that game, seven different players got involved with the scoring. Dom Violante scored three goals. Matt Peterson recorded three goals and an assist, Riley Kleber and Collin Quigley both had two goals and an assist.  Jevon Tyree scored a goal. Ryan Fraass and Matt Goble both had assists.

"Matt Peterson, Riley Kleber and Dom Violante have been more effective and consistent in scoring goals for the team over the past two games," Ziminski said. "They and other players need to be consistent in their efforts with each and every game."

The lone loss for South Brunswick was 9-4 to St. Joe's on Apr. 12.

"We are making too many little mistakes, mental errors that cost us possessions and goals," Ziminski said. "We must play much, much smarter if we want to reach our potential as a team."

South Brunswick's potential could be the way it played in the first four contests. South Brunswick won those games by a combined score of 48-5.

South Brunswick is scheduled to play at Old Bridge on Thursday. South Brunswick will be host to Howell on Saturday.
