South Brunswick 12U Vikings Roll at Hall of Fame

Vikings crush competition in Cooperstown N.Y.

After dominating their District 9 competition earlier this summer, the South Brunswick 12U Vikings are showing no signs of letting up as they play in the shadows of baseball's hallowed ground.

The squad is participating this week in New York at the Cooperstown Dreams Park near the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame against teams from across the nation throughout the week. The Vikings are coming off an especially overpowering stretch locally after they captured the 2013 Cal Ripken District 9 Championship.

In that tournament, the Vikings won all four pool games and the semi-finals versus Monroe (5-2), Edison twice (13-3, 2-0 semi-finals), North Brunswick Gold (16-0), and South Plainfield (10-6), before shutting out the North Brunswick Raiders by a score of 3-0 in the finals.

The Vikings scored a combined total of 49 runs and only let up 11 runs throughout the tournament, along with three shutouts.

As they face competition from around the U.S. this week, the results for South Brunswick have remained the same. The Vikings are 5-0 so far at Cooperstown and in the top 10 out of 104 teams. The squad has scored a total of 78 runs, while letting up only 19.

The squad is powered by Mike Nally, Jacob McIntyre, Jacob Ciccone, Mason Jenne, Sean Goldsmith, Marcus James, Ryan Wislock, Will Beck, Justin Cross, Felix Quinnones, Matthew Lauri and Nick Cubero.

The Vikings will have no time to rest at all however, as they will be leaving right after Cooperstown to participate in the 2013 Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regionals, where they can earn the opportunity to represent the Mid-Atlantic in the Ripken World Series against the best of the best in the country.
