SBHS Girls Basketball Wins First GMC Title Since 1976

Vikings run off 18 unanswered points in overtime to beat North Brunswick 57-39.

The drought lasted 30 long years, but when the  girls basketball team returned to the Greater Middlesex Conference tournament final, they weren't going to let it slip away.

SBHS rallied from a 12-point deficit to defeat North Brunswick 57-39, capturing the GMC championship on Friday night at Rutgers University.  It was the Vikings' first appearance in the GMC Tournament final since 1976, when SBHS won the last of two straight titles.

South Brunswick (21-4) sent the game to overtime before running off 18 unanswered points to earn the championship.

Tournament MVP Danielle Padovano led the way with 20 points, after being held scoreless in the first half.

Vanessa Perdomo (13 points), Danielle Roberts (10 points) and Kelly O'Brien (9 points) helped carry the scoring load for the Vikings.
