SBHS Cross Country Dominates Meet

South Brunswick High School freshman and sophomore boys come in first at Bernie Magee Class meet, while the the boys varsity team overall came in second place.

The South Brunswick High School Cross Country teams enjoyed a successful outing on Sept. 22 at the Bernie Magee Class meet at Warinanco Park in Elizabeth.

The freshmen and sophomore boys teams both finished first, while the varsity boys squad finished second overall. 

For the freshman boys, Nick Cauley (third place), Tyler Sanders (fifth place), Justin Handsman (sixth place), and Jacob Rivera (seventh place) recorded top 10 finishes.

For the sophomore boys, Nicholas Neville (third place), Kyle McCann (fifth place), Matthew Zamorski (sixth place) and Joseph Weber (seventh place) were top 10 finishers. In the varsity boys competition, Neville's time of 17:23.50 was good for 19th overall, and junior Bryan Colhoun finished right behind him at 20th overall with a time of 17:25.70.

On the girls varsity side, SBHS finished in 12th place with a total time of 1:50:18.

Top performers out of the hundreds of competitors included freshman Annalyse Varlow (27th) with an average mile time of 7:14.9. For the junior girls, Jessica Himmel (26th) finished with an average mile time of 6:52.0.

For the varsity girls overall, sophomore Elisa Meranchik was the top performer, finishing in 45th out of 529 competitors, with a time of 21:28.30.
