Donate to Food Pantry at SBHS Football Opener

Record high number of families in need combined with low donation levels have caused a desperate situation at South Brunswick Food Pantry.

With the South Brunswick Food Pantry facing alarmingly empty shelves, a drive will be held on Thursday at the home opener for the state champion South Brunswick High School football team.

South Brunswick Social Services saw over 150 families in April and May, with an average of three new families per month. Once the summer hit, the flood of families in need continued, with 88 in July and 78 in August.

From January through August this year, Social Services saw 553 families. Last year at this time, the total number of families who came in for aid from Social Services was 455. With the food pantry at an all time low and holiday food drives still months away, the department is pleading for residents to donate whatever they can to help bridge the gap.

As a result, South Brunswick High School is reaching out to the community to provide assistance. The school is requesting everyone to bring an item or items to the SBHS Vikings football home opener vs. East Brunswick on Thursday at 7p.m.

Donations can also be dropped off directly at the pantry, located in the Municipal Building at 540 Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction.

To donate or for more information contact Social Services Director LouAnne Wolf at 732-329-4000 ext. 7674.
