Voters Pass South Brunswick School Budget

Incumbent Arthur Robinson, newcomers Patrick Del Piano and Deven Patel elected to Board of Education.

South Brunswick voters approved the 2011-12 school budget by a margin of 2,161 to 1,546.

The Board of Education will see new blood with Patrick Del Piano and Deven Patel being elected to the board along with incumbent Arthur Robinson.  Board of Education President Matthew Speesler was voted out after 15 years on the board.

Del Piano finished first with 1,822 votes, Robinson finished with 1,556 votes and Patel finished with 1,560 votes.  Raymond Kuehner finished with 1,538 votes, Dr. Speesler finished with 1,422 votes and Ed Birch finished with 822 votes.

About 15 percent of 24,780 registered voters in South Brunswick cast their ballots in the election.

Taxpayers approved a $95 million general fund levy that carries a 12.2 cent tax rate increase, which raises the school tax rate to $2.802 per $100 of assessed valuation.

A township home with an assessed value of $200,000 will see an increase of about $244 in school taxes under the approved budget ($20.33 per month) and a home assessed at $300,000 will see an increase of about $366 ($30 per month).

Results are not official until certified by the Board of Elections.
