St. Augustine Students Celebrate Tech Advances

Students of all ages show off integration of technology and curriculum.

St. Augustine of Canterbury School recently concluded the school year focusing on technology achievement and advancement.

Students, faculty, staff and parents filled the school’s gymnasium for “Technology Day,” which is a technology demonstration of projects for students in grades one through eight. Grades one through five presented Power Points integrated in the core curriculum areas of Language Arts, Science and Religion.

Sixth grade students were the first among all grades to use the iMovie application on iPads to create a movie trailer integrating Social Studies.  A sixth grade student presented her award winning Podcast from the NJAET, “Six Sounds in Search of an Author Podcast Contest.”

Seventh grade students presented their Glogsters, an online interactive poster in the four areas of Science, Math, Social Studies and Religion. Additionally, seventh grade students learned how to use iPads to scan Quick Response (QR) codes to read and reveal project clues.

Several graduates of the Class of 2013 returned to present their documentary movies created using iMovie and Windows Movie Maker on the topic of Obama-Care and Hurricane Sandy. Middle school students used their valuable knowledge to mentor the younger students with a program called SCRATCH; a program to incorporate interactive stories, games and animations with an online community.

The Kindergarten students created a podcast through the use of Brenda and George Nippert’s book entitled, The Alphabet of Catholic Saints. This creation can be found in the Multimedia Gallery of the school’s website (www.staugustinenj.org/school).

An enthusiastic way to conclude the school year, as “our 21st Century students inspire us with hope,” said St. Augustine School Principal, Sister Mary Louise Shulas, MPF.
