South Brunswick Parent Academy Puts Spotlight on Reading

Upcoming workshop will offer a look into how reading is taught in the District from elementary through the high school and what parents can do to help children succeed.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the South Brunswick Parent Academy will host its first curriculum workshop of the school year, entitled: Learning to Read; Reading to Learn.

The workshop will offer a first-hand look into the District’s reading curriculum: how reading is being taught in the District from the elementary through the high school years and what parents can do to help children succeed with this critical life skill.  Workshop attendees will learn the various genres students will encounter as 21st Century learners, and the skills and strategies they can use to manage challenging text and grow as independent readers.

As an added incentive, ten lucky registrants will receive a copy of one of the workshop’s recommended readings: How Reading Changed My Life by Anna Quindlen or Read It Again: Revisiting Shared Reading by Brenda Parkes.
