South Brunswick Musicians Cross Generations (VIDEO)

Students from the Brooks Crossing Elementary School Jazz Band and Cambridge Elementary School Chamber Orchestra performed at the South Brunswick Senior Center.

As part of an ongoing intergenerational partnership between the South Brunswick School District and the township Senior Center, talented young musicians put on a show last week for an audience of seniors.

The Brooks Crossing Elementary School Jazz Band and Cambridge Elementary School Chamber Orchestra played a number of selections to help the students broaden their horizons.

"We try to give our students an extra opportunity to perform besides school," said Brooks Crossing music teacher Jeff Auriemma. "Performances like this give us a chance to feature a number of different programs.”

The mini-concert also helped to bridge the generational gap between the seniors and the young musicians.

"This helps the kids understand that music has no boundaries age-wise," said Cambridge, Greenbrook and Brooks Crossing music teacher Milena Dawidowicz. "Music can have a positive affect on people's mood and well being, plus it just makes you feel good."
