Letter to the Editor: Deven Patel – A Good Choice for South Brunswick Board of Education

Letter to the editor from Dr. Tushar B. Patel.

The South Brunswick school board election is on April 27, 2011.  The election is very important this year as the school board faces fiscal challenges and is under tremendous scrutiny to control spending taxpayer money wisely.  Reducing and cutting the school programs and staffing to balance the budget is the biggest challenge for the current school board.  South Brunswick is a culturally diverse township and people from all walks of life are part of our population.

Deven Patel is a young, energetic and dynamic individual who is a resident of South Brunswick for more than seven years.  He is employed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and is actively involved in so many local and state level organizations.  His three kids attend the South Brunswick public schools and he is very familiar with the need of township residents the in school system.  Mr. Patel ran in two school board elections in the past and lost last year's election by only few votes.  He regularly attends the school board meetings and raises the issue of parents and students for a successful outcome.  He is continuously involved with the school sports and other activities with his kids and actively participates in other school and township activities.

During this time of fiscal and personnel challenges, we need a new set of eyes to overlook the management of our school board.  This will not only bring new ideas to improve our school system, but take our school system to a higher level and standards to compete with the top rated public schools in the nation.   I have known Mr. Patel for more than 10 years and worked very closely with him in various organizations.  He is very dedicated to community service and will involve parents, teachers and students to bring the positive change South Brunswick's school system is awaiting for a long time.    His experience working for the NJ State and other community organizations will give him an upper hand to bring our school system and community together to resolve issues and make the South Brunswick School system one of the best in the State.
