The History of Quilting in America and Modern Quilts

This lecture is presented by Gail Small, lecturer and historian

Topics will be: The Migration Westward from 1830 to 1860, The Civil War from 1860 to 1890, The Great Depression and World War II from 1920 to 1950.

There will be a display of twenty blocks that represent each era in history.  Hear original quotes about quilt making, sewing clothes, hand work and what it meant personally to the colonial women.

There will be a showing of several of her most unique quilts and explanation and demonstration of  the various techniques she has learned.  Gail has taught classes in her home, sold many quilts, and has demonstrated quilting at the Middlesex County Fair for several years.
