Job Seeking Skills Series

Nel Koscinski, a trainer from Middlesex County College, will begin offering classes to job seekers here at SBPL to improve their computer and job search skills. The classes will focus on basic computer skills needed by every job applicant today making them more confident and self sufficient. All courses will be delivered at a basic user level, are each 4 hours long and are built around workforce development skills.

The classes will be held on four Wednesdays in July: July 6 - Introduction to Windows which is very basic and foundational information suited for someone with extremely limited experience on the computer; July 13 - Internet Training in basic usage of the Internet, understanding website addresses, introduction to the major web search engines, elements of a web search with specific emphasis on web based job searches; July 20 - Microsoft Word basic elements with enphaisis on development of a resume and cover letter; and July 27 - Microsoft Outlook to access electronic e-mail, proper usage of web based e-mail, e-mail etiquette, responding to job listings and on-line job applications.

The classes will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the computer training room. Space is limited; register for all four programs.

The training comes as part of a $5.1 million National Telecommunications and Information Administration American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to support the New Jersey State Library’s Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP). One of the program’s goals is to provide job search assistance and workforce development programs.
