South Brunswick Primary Election 2012: What You Need to Know

Candidates and poll locations for the election on June 5.

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the June primary election leading up to the November general election. 

Democrats will choose from five candidates for Township Council to select three who will move on to the November election.  The terms of incumbent Democratic Councilmen Joseph Camarota, Charles Carley, and Republican John O'Sullivan have expired. 

Voters will choose from among Camarota, of Kendall Park, and Carley, of Kendall Park, who both filed to run for reelection, along with Josephine "Jo" Hochman, on the Middlesex County Democratic Organization ticket.

Opposing the incumbents and Hochman are the Township Democrats ticket, consisting of former South Brunswick Mayor Debra Johnson, of Monmouth Junction, and Shilpn Patel, of Monmouth Junction.

In the race for a 16th District Assembly seat, Democratic challengers and will square off for the right to challenge Republican Donna Simon in November.

Simon was selected in January to fill the seat of the late Peter Biondi, a former Hillsborough mayor and Somerset County freeholder who .

The 16th District, which used to be mostly in Somerset County, now contains municipalities from four counties — Hillsborough, Branchburg, Manville, Millstone, Montgomery, Somerville and Rocky Hill; Princeton Township and Princeton Borough in Mercer; Delaware, Flemington, Raritan Township, Readington and Stockton in Hunterdon and South Brunswick in Middlesex.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in South Brunswick (see below for poll locations).
