Potholes Causing Problems on State Roads in South Brunswick

Residents can report potholes to the state on the Department of Transportation web site.

In the wake of the constant pounding of snow and ice from the winter season, South Brunswick's roads have seen better days.  The combined effect from all of the winter storms has led to widespread potholes, creating problem areas on state roads Route 1, Route 130 and Route 27.

South Brunswick Township officials have notified the state of the road conditions, but are asking residents to make their voices heard as well.  The New Jersey Department of Transportation web site has a form residents can fill out to report potholes on state roadways.

"We're asking our residents to help us out by going there and reporting potholes to the state so hopefully they'll come out and take care of them more quickly," said Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz.  "The more people that report them, the quicker the state will get the job done hopefully."

Specific problem areas include the northbound side of Route 130 between Stults Road and Deans Rhode Hall Road, Route 1 just north of Ridge Road and Route 27 just north of Raymond Road.  The poor conditions have caused traffic backups throughout town as motorists use township roads to avoid driving over the mangled state roads.

"People have noticed a large number of vehicles exiting Route 130 in order to miss all the potholes in that area," Schmalz said.

He added that the township's Public Works Department has been out performing repairs to potholes on township roads, but said residents can call public works at 732-329-4000 ext. 7260 to report an problem areas.
