In 16th District, Democrats Hope for Change

Adding the Princetons, South Brunswick to staunchly Republican district have some believing 16th could be in play in November.

Democrats have an uphill battle in the newly drawn 16th legislative district, but one they do not believe is insurmountable.

The addition of three reliably Democratic towns -- Princeton Borough and Township, and South Brunswick -- and a shift in registration numbers has some, including the Democratic candidates, feeling the district will be competitive. Registered Democrats now outnumber registered Republicans in the 16th legislative district.

-- incumbent Christopher "Kip" Bateman, a Republican, and attorney Mauren Vella, a Democrat, for state Senate

-- incumbent Peter Biondi and Somerset County Freeholder Jack Ciatterelli, both Republicans from Hillsborough, and Joseph Camarota, of South Bruswick, and Marie Corfield, of Flemington, the Democrats. Incumbent Republican Denise Coyle is not seeking re-election.
